Something our customers may not realize when shopping at The Kellogg Collection is that we carry an assortment of beds and bed linens. Wood, painted, and upholstered beds and headboards are in-stock for the customer in need of immediate gratification, or for the customer with more specific needs, there are many options available for special order.
Before selecting the style of your frame, first consider what the appropriate size mattress is for the size of your bedroom and your personal needs. Typical mattress sizes are as follows:
Single (Twin): 39” x 75”
Double (Full): 54” x 75”
Queen: 60” x 80”
King: 76” x 80”
California King: 72” x 84”
Often the depth of the mattress you choose will vary anywhere from about nine inches to over fifteen inches deep depending on whether it is a standard or pillow-top mattress. With the addition of a box spring, the total depth will increase even more, and is definitely something to keep in mind when purchasing bed linens.
There are an infinite number of options to pick from as far as style goes. Popular styles include sleigh beds, four-poster beds, or wrought iron frames, but for our purposes, the styles we typically order are featured below. These include upholstered headboards, the Swedish style and a more romantic, antique frame.
Upholstered headboards offer variety in the actual shape of the headboard, the fabric, and other details. For example, choosing a square shape in a plaid wool with nailhead trim creates a masculine look while a gently curving shape in a light-colored linen and tufting is softer and more feminine. Decorative details such as a contrasting trim, tufting or piping further contribute to the look you are trying to create, as well as emphasizing the shape of the actual headboard.
Because of its uncomplicated profile, the Swedish style headboard is the perfect backdrop to a make a statement with patterned linens. With decorative details restricted to the edging of the headboards and footboards, this type of bed can be quiet anchor in a master bedroom. Something to consider…a white, antiqued paint finish gives a more casual and delicate look, while a rich caramel stained finish gives a more formal and masculine impression.
The shabby-chic antique reproduction bed shown creates a softer, romantic look in the bedroom. Available in an upholstered linen option or caning, the beauty of this style is in the delicate carving placed around the edges of the bed frame. Similar in look to the Swedish bed, this would be a great option for someone who is looking for something a little more ornate in the bedroom.
Don’t forget, once you’ve chosen your bed, we have a selection of bed linens, including shams, duvet covers, coverlets, and bed skirts, available in a variety of fabrics to finish the look. If what you’re looking for isn’t in-stock, we are happy to special order or customize the order to your needs.
