Upholstery at The Kellogg Collection

By Madison Mansfield

It’s time we shared a few of our tips and tricks for selecting upholstery for your space. First and foremost, you want to measure your space. We cannot stress this enough – measure twice, cut once! We recommend leaving enough room on each side of the sofa for a great pair of end tables with some breathing room in between.

Once you know what size will work best, then it’s time to talk style! Do you prefer a skirted bottom? Castors? English Roll arm? Modern tuxedo arm? Or the classic Larson arm? Check out some of our most loved sofas and chairs from our shops.

Next, you’ll want to consider your fabric options. Do you have pets or small children? Then one of our Crypton, Sunbrella, or other high performance fabrics will be a perfect fit for you. We love selecting a lighter neutral shade for areas like family rooms and living rooms, while opting for fun fabrics on smaller pieces like dining chairs or ottomans. If you’re moved by luxurious fabric and texture, you’ll probably want to splurge on one of our designer fabrics. Designer fabrics tend to be more expensive than basic manufacturers, but their stunning detail and color make them a perfect option for creating your first heirloom piece!

Last and most certainly not least: COLOR! If you’ve ever visited our shops then you know we love easy neutrals as a decorating foundation. From cream to white to beige and pale gray, we can’t get enough of the milky hue and its insatiable ability to freshen up a drab, dark space. However, as design enthusiasts we also dream in color and love to bring pops of it into our customer’s homes. Our go-to color options are typically soft blues and greens BUT we are known for incorporating color in our decorative pillow selection. Additionally, we thoroughly encourage pattern and color on accent chairs and throw pillows – such a simple yet fun way to make your house a home.

Whether you’re a fellow color-lover or a fan of beloved neutrals, stop by one of our four locations to get an expert opinion.
